The Clinton Community School District Board of Education seat left vacant following the death of Jim McGraw will appear on the September 12, 2017, School Election ballot.
Iowa law allows the vacancy to appear on the regular School Election ballot. The seat will be listed as “To Fill Vacancy.” The winner of that seat will serve the remainder of the two years of the term.
The traditional four seats up for election this year will be tallied separate from the vacancy.
Due to the separate races, candidates will need to choose if they will run for the traditional four-year term or the vacancy seat for a two-year term. Candidates can identify which seat they will run for based on how they file their nomination papers and the affidavits of candidacy with the school secretary. Candidates who wish to fill the two-year term of the vacancy must check the box on the nomination papers and affidavit which states they are running to fill a vacancy.
Nomination papers and affidavits of candidacy for all school board seats are due to Mrs. Cindy McAleer, school board secretary, before 5 p.m. on August 3.
